EAX-2500

EAX-2500 replaces old model EA-2500.

Power:

The unit is powered by a standard 9v battery.  It is a good idea to keep a backup on hand when power gets low.  The EAX-2500 will emit a chirping sound when battery is low.

Alternately, you may hard wire power to the unit using a 24 VAC transformer.  See the related products tab above to order a transformer.

A mortise cylinder is used to arm / disarm the unit.  The cylinder is sold separately since many buildings have their own set of cylinders.  We provide the option above to order the cylinder with the unit.  Should you want to provide your own cylinder use a standard 1-1/4'' mortise cylinder with a straight cam.

Mounting:

The standard method of mounting uses a 4 x 4 double gang electrical box. 

Wiring:

Thin gauge wire (22 ga or so) is used to wire the alarm.  For single doors, one magnetic contact switch is used.  Shown in red below, this is the contat type often found in home and business security systems.  Double doors use two contact switches, one for each door.

Whether wiring for a single door or double doors the wires are confugred to form a compete loop, from the alarm to the switch(es) and then back to the alarm.

When the unit is powered on, closed doors allow the signal to flow through the loop.  Should a door open the loop is broken and the alarm sounds.

You may use any type of contact switch.  There are hundreds to choose from and most are inexpensive and readily available. 

If you would like to order switches with this unit we've provided that option above.  The model we use is GE's 1085W-M (see images tab) because it comes with it's own wire leads for eash connections.  The color is brown but it may also be painted.
